We r sitting on the rooftop bar of our hotel near the Pantheon first built in bc and later converted to a church under Hadrian in the 2nd century ad and then given to some pope in the 6th century. The sun is just setting and we r having a nice bottle of wine. This area of Rome is mostly pedestrian narrow streets and was modernized in the 1700s. We landed here an hr late and caught a bus in ftom the airport. Then we got the metro for a few stops snd walked with double packs to Trevi fountain( over the top) and then to the hotel. Its not as hot as Athens but still toasty when humping 30 lbs of gear. Our room is adequate nothing fancy despite a ridiculously high price. We r paying for the ability to walk everywhere. So its been a long day which started at 4am in Athens and ends here. We had a great dinner in a nearby cafe. I had a Roman specialty of shaved beef with tomatos bitter greens parmesan cheese & balsamic vinegar. Yum.Narain had pasta with seafood. Tomorrow we check out the coliseum . Cant wait
